Hi I am just about to boot up a new computer with Vista as my OS. My old(current) PC runs on XP.
- If it's possible, how can I transfer some emails from Outlook Express to Windows Email
- When I tried to open word docs created on XP onto a Vista run laptop, all I got was gobbledy gook so to speak. Is there something I need to do to allow this to happen
- I am currently saving My Docs on XP to a flash drive so that I can hopefully transfer them onto the new PC. Is it that simple because I have heard there can be problems with Vista reading XP created docs
- I have a HP V45 3in1 printer which took some time to get the software running with XP. Is there an easier solution so that I don't have any problems with the printer on Vista
- Is there any other tips that can make this all go smoother for me

On the word docs: It depends what format they're saved in, and what they're opened on. If you're using Office 2007 on your XP, they're in docx format, whereas if it's not on the Vista machine, ti won't open them properly. You may need to resave them in doc format to get them to work properly.
If you can, check for the latest drivers (ie Vista compatible) for your printer BEFORE you get the PC, and save them to your flash drive, so you can transfer them on quickly. It may search online, so it may find them, but then you have them just in case.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

Ok, let's make a start - Most of this is possible
You need to copy over your Outlook Express folder comlplete from C:\Doucuments and Settings\[Your Username]\Local Settings\Identities\[a very long number] to the Vista PC. Then you can import using File, Import, Messages, Outlook Express 6, Import from an OE6 store directory. If it's possible, how can I transfer some emails from Outlook Express to Windows Email
Yes, you need to install Word/Office or Openoffice on the new PC.When I tried to open word docs created on XP onto a Vista run laptop, all I got was gobbledy gook so to speak. Is
there something I need to do to allow this to happen
There should be no problems, as long as you are not installing an older version of office on the new PC.I am currently saving My Docs on XP to a flash drive so that I can hopefully transfer them onto the new PC. Is it
that simple because I have heard there can be problems with Vista reading XP created docs
It looks like there is only basic printing support for this printer on Vista, so you won't be able to use all the features.I have a HP V45 3in1 printer which took some time to get the software running with XP. Is there an easier solution
so that I don't have any problems with the printer on Vista0 -
don't do it, vista is so problematic, xp always ran far better than vista. But up to you, read the bad reviews before you do. Windows 7 has dealt with the Vista problems.Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 20160

Why did you get a computer with Vista on it?
I mean, it's not as terrible as everyone makes out, but I don't see much point going from one obsolete OS to another.0 -
Stay on XP........Not Again0

But it's getting harder to get support on it
That's why I thought Vista was a better option If youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0 -
Still using XP here. What support do you need?
It's said that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.I went away and now I'm back.:j:j0 -

Can you get a cheap/free Windows 7 upgrade?
I got Windows 7 on my laptop and it's much better than Vista especially the speed accessing files, the wireless connection, uses less resources and it was easy to do a clean install.I went away and now I'm back.:j:j0
