no, it will only affect the external IP that you use to connect to the net. your internal (private) network will be fine providing that the settings are saved before the router is rebooted0

thanks. should the settings be saved automatically or is it a manual process"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Everything will be sorted out automatically.0 -
i only have experience of netgear, d-link and belkin routers.dipsomaniac wrote: »thanks. should the settings be saved automatically or is it a manual process
the only one that caused me problems with settings was the D-link as i forgot to save the settings as the option was buried so deep in other menus0 -
When you turn the router back on, you may get a new external IP, or it could be fixed if you have a static IP or use a no nat connection - but with all of these it won't affect your internal PC's and file sharing.dipsomaniac wrote: »the main pc is wired to a bt home hub. the printer is wired to the main pc. i have 3 x laptops running wirelessly off the hub sharing the main pc printer and files. if the hub is switch off and the ip changes when switched back on will it affect the printer and file sharing?
The other thing that could change is your internal IP addresses (depending on DHCP lease times), which again shouldn't affect the file sharing - as long as you used the computer names eg pc1 pc2 for the connections rather than IP addresses. Even if the IP's change, the name resolution will find the new IP either by DNS (if you are using the router for DNS) or broadcast.0 -

when sharing the printer with the wireless laptops i just let the laptops find the pc/printer so am assuming i used the computer names rather than ip addresses"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
That will be fine, it should all work ok after a shutdown.dipsomaniac wrote: »when sharing the printer with the wireless laptops i just let the laptops find the pc/printer so am assuming i used the computer names rather than ip addresses0 -
