help laying slate tiles

having bought a house which requires a lot of work to be done to it ,one of the tasks i am taking on is floor tiling. i have tiled the kitchen floor with great success. i layed 6mm ply board onto the floor boards nailing it down every 100mm then layed the tiles using a flexible adhesive. i am now going to attempt to lay slate tiles in the vestabule a 2.5x1.5m area. i have layed the ply but my worry is that the slate tiles are very wobbly and uneven on both sides i am worried they will not stay in place.
Any help on this matter will be much appreciated. i am now racing against time to get the tiling done before the carpeter comes in.

It sounds very much to me that the tiles/slates you have need to be bedded firmly in a mortar, a timber floor is not suitable.

Seek advice from were you brought the tiles. (A tile merchant hopefully)

This is really a job for a pro but if you do take it on use a very thick bed of flexible adhesive, laying the thickest tiles in the centre and the thin ones at the edge using more adhesive to keep them level.
