Hi
I have just been accepted for the job of Sales Advisor for Sky working in a call centre.
I have only just been informed however that weekend working will be required.
Does anyone know how many weekends will be required? They have said it's on a 6 week rota but can't provide more details.
I won't be able to work every weekend because my dh is required to do every weekend already and can't get out of that and we have two kids under 8. I could maybe get a relative to do the odd weekend babysitting but not every weekend.
thanks

Hi,
Just ring the HR department and tell them your situation - I'm sure you'll be able to get an answer.
If you do go ahead with the job, please tell your colleagues to cheer up and stop being rude.
Good luck0 -

It depends. Are you actually working for sky in a sky call centre, or are you working for an outsourced provider?
I know that the Livingston Sky call centre has fixed shift patterns, so if you opt for the Friday-Saturday-Sunday-Monday shift, you're stuck with it, every weekend. they have some Mon-Fri normal hours shifts though. When I went through the recruitment charade with them, they were quite clear about fixed shifts. I'm not sure about the other centres, I think Uddingston near Glasgow is sales based, but I was up for customer service/technical role.. I didn't get it, I suspect mainly because they want support staff to upsell, and that's not something that sits comfortably with me. If I call a helpline, I want my problem resolved, and I want the person helping me to be focussed 100% on resolving my problems, NOT looking for ways to sell me more products. I managed to resolve the problems in the test calls, but couldn't do the smalltalk and upselling.
From what I've heard, it's pretty brutal in sky call centres. Micromanagement city, if you get my drift. a couple of people told me I had a lucky escape. not much consolation when ANY job is better than NO job.0 -
When I worked at Sky it was a 6 week rota, with most weeks having two days off in a row, and a couple with random days off. Note that these aren't always a Saturday/Sunday off, but you will be working 5 days a week. So in answer to your original post, yes you WILL be working some, if not all, weekends.
They give you your shifts with a lot of notice, but you don't really have an option of swapping them unless you manage to find someone on the calling floor to help you out. Are you actually work for Sky themselves, or just The Listening Company or a similar outsourcer? I worked for TLC and to be honest, as has been said it's pretty brutal, and seriously micromanaged. But on the other hand, most the people there are alright, and it's ok for someone who is alright with hard-selling. Good luck!0
