Run the LNK file association fix at http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm. You may also need the EXE file association fix as well.

They are .zip files so download and run the ZIP folder association fix first.

This one can be deleted manually (if you knoiw the filename).

Did the scanner tell you the filenames?

What AV protection are you using, and is it upto date?

Do you have any other anti-malware/spyware apps installed?

    Hi wolvesinwales,

What you have is a trojan downloader potentially putting program(s) on on computer you don't want. It must be stopped. And soon.

You most likely have a LOP infection which could have come to you when you installed Messenger Plus 3.

If you have it uninstall Messenger Plus 3 completely. You can then reinstall it but saying NO to installing sponsors when presented with the EULA.

Also download the fully working trial version of TrojanHunter from here ....

    http://www.misec.net/

Scan your computer with it and fix anything it finds to be bad.

LOP comes with a host program and normally will go away when the hosts program is uninstalled. After you uninstall Messenger Plus 3, and have completed the TrojanHunter sweep, post a HijackThis log and let's check if LOP is gone.

Once again thanks for all your help.
I can well believe it was from messenger 3 as that was installed a couple of weeks ago.
Again the suggested Trojanhunter will not open because 'windows needs to know what programme to open it with'
I did manage to do a system restore in safe mode and all seemed ok until i tried to uninstall messenger and computer froze and it's back to square 1.
Seriously considering a reformat now and any help with this would be appreciated.

I've not heard of that trouble with Trojanhunter before. Clearly there is something more deep seated.

Go through all the steps in the first 4 posts here (it may take a while but it will be worth the effort) ....

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=133269

Post a HijackThis log if everything is not yet back to normal and/or Trojanhunter still refuses to work.

Remember ... if it IS back to normal - and you want to reinstall messenger plus3 - DO NOT ACCEPT the optional LOP download.
