IB50 medical(examination)

Hi my husband went for a IB50 medical last wednesday (depression and anixety) but at the end of the questions that he was asked the nurse examined him why?, she got him to bend over and try and touch his toes and squat, he is only on incapacity for mental health and think it's strange the nurse asking him to do this, any help much appreciated.

There would be no reason for him to be asked to do this unless he had stated he had some sort of physical problem on the IB50 or if he mentioned something at the medical. It seems odd to me too.

Thanks for your quick response, my husband did have to give the nurse his prescription list which had on Tramadol for pain in his kidneys which she did ask about so I don't know if its anything to do with that,im just worried that they are going to make him have to score 15 points for mental health and physical

    Yes that would explain it.

If he scores 0 points for physical health it will only be judged on the mental health side of things.

This could just be a case of a nurse being over zealous?

It is very debatable if a nurse, and not a doctor, should be carrying out these type of examinations when the result has such far reaching implications. Perhaps this is just a case of trying to prove she is up to the job?
  • When I had mine the nurse was called in at some point made me do the same thing only I said I better not I might not be able to get up again !

Did you pass? and were you down for mental health?, sorry don't mean to be nosy just thought I would ask as i'm thinking now why did the nurse ask him to do that
  • AT the time iirc I had a really nasty repetitive strain in my elbow, joint pains which come & go when they are bad I am in severe pain,& mental health I think I was on my anti depressant(mild at this time)but I may have stopped taking them by the appointment, nurse kind of appeared brushing her clothes down as if to be straightening her clothes, very strange,I am not sure if I passed or failed (haven't even had a chance to look at the paper work)I was told no more sick notes no more income support you will have to claim Job seekers instead
I am surprised I haven't had a complete nervous breakdown to be honest
