Windows 7 Screensaver not working

My Dell Vostro 1000 screensaver doesn't work. Even the preview only just flashes on for a split second.
I have tried coming up in "Clean Boot" and altering the settings so it doesn't conflict with the power settings to no avail.
Don't know if its significant or not but when I hover the cursor over an item on the taskbar the preview only comes on for a split second as well
Any suggestions?
PS I'm not sure if it worked before I upgraded to W7

Not had a problem myself, I'm running win 7 HP.
Power options problem ?That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I can't find the relevant reference but it might be something to do with the LAN wake up settings on your network adapter, I had this after upgrading to Win7 where the PC would wakeup from standby on its own, could be on the wrong track though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Yes, I did check that and it was set to wake up but when I unticked it made no difference. I feel that it must be something like that though.....so thanks anyway.0 -
After much searching on the techie forums I found the solution. Unlikely as it may seem..........
Switch off
unplug mains lead
remove battery
press Power On switch several times and/or hold down for a few seconds.
refit battery
plug back into mains
switch on.
Screen saver now works and all Aero functions work correctly especially the thumbnail preview from the task bar.

how weird is that, who would have thought that removing the battery and pushing the power button would reset the screensaver..genius!0
