Nectar points errors - check your balance!!

Last week I bought items totalling £22.51 in Sainsburys.
I thought I had about 800 points on my Nectar card so I asked the lady at the til to use 500 of those points to take £2.50 off my final bill. She told me I had £22.50 of points to spend. I was shocked to say the least and thought I had won points or something like that - so I told her to go ahead and take off the £22.50 so all I owed her was 1p!
As you Sainsburys shoppers know, your points balance comes out on your receipt. When I got home I cross checked the last 3 digits of the Nectar card number on the receipt against my own and they don't match - so I obviously obtained these points from someone else's balance. I googled this and judging from what I have seen on other forums it is a common occurrence!
I have written to Nectar explaining this and offered to refund those points and by whatever means pay back the £22.50.
So it would be advisable to check your Nectar balance frequently - especially if you have been amassing points for months and months.

We have just been possibly cheated out of £50 worth of necter points due to this error - something to do with the barcode and the swipe coding not matching on a run of old key dangles apparently.
(Cheated out of because I always swipe my key dongle whenever I go shopping/get petrol, but went through a checkout with a cashier for once for Xmas large shop to spend points on, and she used the barcode, which was only £10 odd of points. Checked with customer services and realised there were two different accounts on the dongle, phoned up when got home and was told it was someone else's card number, so all those points I've been building up for them, they will get as it's not my card number. Not a happy bunny).
Make sure you get your dongles swiped and scanned at customer services to check the account number is the same, if not, phone them up for a new card which apparently won't have the same problem (have yet to check mine, don't think we will be shopping at Sainsbury's very often any more, despite brilliant CS in the past, this more than cancels that all out - £50!!!!!! grrrr:mad:)Do not feed the trolls please.0 -
Respect to you for being so honourable and offering to pay the amount back even though it was Sainsburys' own systems that caused the error- how many of us would do the same thing I wonder?...0

If you have been putting your points on that card as well you may not owe them the full amount back as some of those points could be yours. Make sure the points that you have put on are actually on your own account before giving them anything. I have a feeling that they will just write them off as they will not have a system to take money off you for the points. If I was them I would give the card holder their points back and ask you to make a donation of a tenner to charity. If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550

I obtained a temporary card from Tesco Express started collecting points but noticed they weren't showing up on receipt.Called customer services who took ages to find out that the actual permanant card with the same number was registered under someonelses name in another part of the country so i was giving them my points! the form was maybe duplicated. I complained that they could cash them in etc in the end they split the points by seeing on the system the store i use & transfered them on to another card for me, i doubt the other person was happy even though they weren't theres or maybe they got to keep them & they just transfered the total worked out on to mine. But it could of been worse, i felt let down & was really nice to then on phone (when hubby said to be nasty to get results!) it took me letters & calls & then they didn't even give me any extra points for my trouble just a grovelling apology letter.
One lady said on the phone this had happened to a few people so if you get one of them temporary cards be careful & make sure you are getting :mad:your points!.
