in Cutting tax
This is only the second time we have done my husband's self-assessment and I thought we had got it all sorted, but have realised we have made a bit of a boob. We have already submitted and paid last week.
Last year we did it correctly and included all invoiced amounts in his turnover, including payments not received until after Apr 5. This year, for some reason I got it into my head that you only including actual PAYMENTS received, so have included £1438 which was already declared last year, but not declared an invoice for £1760 which wasn't paid until after Apr 5 2009. Therefore the turnover was £322 lower than it should have been, and I reckon we owe about £135 including NI and payment on account.
Is there any way we can go back on-line and resubmit the amended return and pay the extra on-line too? If not, do we have to fill in some sort of amendment form, or should we telephone his tax office that deals with his self-assessment (he has recently started receiving a pension and now seems to have 3 tax offices dealing with different aspects of his income), or just write a letter to them?
Thanks

You need to write to your taxx office making an amendment. You can pay the additional tax using the reference number which you have.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

You can do the amendment online ONLY if this is how you submitted the original return.
If you submitted using the HMRC website then log back in and you will have a link to submit the amendment. I beleive that you just update the figure required and then submit. Then you can pay the remaining balance. The billpayment website is quite useful for tax payments.0 -
Thanks fengirl and nikki.
I should have checked the HMRC web site earlier. It does say you can make amendments on-line, so we have just done that and also paid the extra through their billpayment system.
I must remember to do it right next year.0
