Navman 530 - how do i ?????

Hi,

Rather than confuse the thread in the grabbit forum, I've started this one where people can ask questions on how to use this unit.

Here goes - when searching for a postcode, how can I enter the house number so that it takes me to number 22 5df 7qy for example - when I do it, it always defaults to the middle of the street.

    Hi Italiastar

As far as I know you can't automatically search for a house number and postcode, just post code only which will get you to the middle of it.

However, after finding the post code on screen, as described, tap the screen and two crosshairs will appear, you can then move these crosshairs up/down or right/left with the stylus inside the crosshair box. After each move, tap inside the same crosshair box and a menu will pop up with the house number and address at the top. If still incorrect, tap the screen anywhere to close the menu and move the crosshairs again. Repeat until you find the correct number and then use the same menu to 'Navigate to', 'Set as Start Location' or 'Add To Favourites' etc.

I believe, though not 100% that the newer TeleAtlas 2005.2 onwards software will enable inputting of house number with postcodes thus doing away with the above.

Unfortunately, it is not available with Navman yet!!

What I did yesterday with a couple of new 'Saved In Favourites' locations that I visited, was to map a route using the postcode which then got me pretty close. Then when I arrived at the destination, I carried out the procedure above moving the crosshairs to where the icon shows where you actually are, then tapping the screen and entering the location into my favourites which then overwrites the previous 'same' location that was found by postcode search.

To do this you have to have originally entered the location in your favourites after a postcode search, and then update it using the same 'Stored In Favourites' name you chose, but with more accurate location data you now have when you arrive at that location.

The only problem I have encountered with this, is when the actual location conflicts with the given postcode

eg. my post code ends with 7JU. However, when I sit in my house and move the crosshairs over the icon that shows my 'home' position, and then tap for the menu it shows '7QN'.

Now I do live in a very rural area, so I wonder how accurate the postcoding system is as it works by grouping a number of houses together, and my closest neighbour is half a mile away.

It could be that the Navman is actually more accurate than the post office!

Anyway, I hope you make sense of this and it is in someway helpful?

    Cheers

I think I've found another feature - lack of estimated time of arrival displayed - has anyone worked out how to get this displayed - apart from find ing your way, I think this is the most useful thing to have on SAT Nav - even better than speed camera warnings. Has anyone worked out how to get this displayed.
  • A good forum for sat nav users is https://www.pocketgpsworld.com

They ahve threads for all popular sat nav systems and navman is definately covered.

when you have a route plotted in just use left and right arrows on the remote control to toggle between mph, miles to go and ETA etc.

You can use the remote, or you can touch the bottom right-hand side of the display while en route, which will then toggle through the different settings as stated above.

Bought one of the Navman iCN530 units and last night tried to install the speed camera database from pocketgpsworld.com.

Only downloaded the single file (containing all the types of speed cameras) from the database just to see how to do it. When I look at the map it just shows a red dot (sometimes) where a camera is located.

I tested it out by driving past a speed camera and there was no audible or visual alert.

Please help. What have I done wrong? How do I get an icon other than a red dot and how do I make it alert me to a nearing camera?

Am I right in thinking pocketgpsworld charge for their speed camera POI files?

If so is there anywhere I can get it for nothing?
