newsagent so rude........

yesterday i popped into the town centre (bradford) and as our post office shuts at 12.30 i had missed it and had to go to the only newsagents that sold electric tokens for my meter.....i bought two magazines too as the guy is quite miserable and moans if you just go in for electric and that - he had the cheek once to say he doesnt get paid for the service so you must buy something - i try not to use him, but, if i miss the post office i have no choice.....

anyway, his wife served me and took the money for the mags and token and my electricity card - she placed the card on the counter and then gave me my change - i put the change away and waited for the card and token - she said 'did you already take it?' i said not but that id seen someones hand take it from her side of the counter so maybe your hubby took it? she asked him and he came right into my face and begain yelling 'dont accuse me of taking it' - he was really in my face and very angry - i said i didnt accuse i just asked as i had seen someone take it - he was really arrogant and told me to get out of his shop..........i refused - i said i want my card and the token - the lady had took my money and i wanted the things i had paid for - he was really shouting at me by this time and really in my face.........aaarghgh, i wish i hadnt but i burst into tears - i said ' you shouldnt talk to me like that - even my husband doesnt talk to me like that' - he said ' im surprised you have a husband you petty cow' - he then told me to leave again and i wouldnt so he said he would get the police - i said 'get them' cos im not leaving without my token - i need the card to get a token - you have lost the card so i want the token...........a young guy was really nice and he gave me a token and said could you get a new card now/ i said yes, i will but im really annoyed with the way he was with me (the other man)...the guy was really sweet so i said thanks and as i was so upset and everyone was looking at me i left the shop........

outside, the police pulled up so i went over to them and explained what had happened - they just said not to go to his shop again as they also thought he was a very rude arrogant and very angry man......

still annoyed over this though - what right did he have to reduce me to tears at all? i think the heat had got to me as i dont usually cry easy but, i had been walking about a couple of hours in the sun by then.......

i would really like this man to get his comeupponce - anyone know a site where i can name and shame?

please please avoid him or if you do use his shop please check everything and keep a close eye on any cards.......

Is the newsagents part of a chain? Like 'Stars'? If so i would contact their head office with a letter of complaint, no person has the right to speak to you in that manner.

So the guy that gave you a token was he just another customer then?

I would complain about this if they are a chain - though I dont think that they are - typed in the name of the shop into yell and that shop was the only one in the UK that it came up with.

no - the guy was one of the staff - he mightve been their son i dont know - asians tend to have their own family as staff dont they? the guy was really nice but the older one - aarghghghhg - i dont think it is a chain - sooo wish i could report him to someone though..........

He's talking out of his backside about not getting paid for offering the service (I presume it's paypoint or a similar system) There is actually quite a lot of work that goes into paypoint etc, so if there was no financial advantage in a shop offering it why on earth would anyone put themselves out to do it. Especially small shops like newsagents.

It might also be worth mentioning the possible fraud aspect of what happened to your gas/electric company. After all if he's taking the money for tokens but then keeping the tokens and re selling them to someone else (not saying he is but it's a possible explanation) I'm sure the electricity co who issues the tokens wouldn't be too happy about it.

How upsetting for you!

It may be that you have no real recourse, but try to take comfort from this:

They will eventually go out of business. And, in the meantime, they have to live with their miserable selves. Trust me, they're not happy.

thanks all - looby - he did actually say to me he had a witness that he didnt take the card and said the guy who was in at the beginning was one of his regular and best customers - the guy he was on about was actually a druggie, so, yes - that is quite suspicious........

brandnewday - im not after any recourse hun, but, it is comforting to know he will go out of business - how do i help him on his way lol? he also sells alcohol so there might be the fact that he sells to underage kids - maybe i should organise a sting and see? lol

i can laugh a bit now about it, but, i am sooo annoyed with myself for letting him upset me - it was his eyes though i think, they had too much white in them and looked eveil, so when he was in my face he really creeped me out.............

I would report the incident to the electricity company he is providing the service for. They won't act on one isolated complaint, but if several people complain, they might take some action.

when i phoned for my replacement card i did report him - they said they would look into the matter and keep it on file..........thanks all - am feeling much better today - but, incidents like this dont half make you self conscious - i was thinking along the lines of if i was half the size i am he wouldntve spoke to me that way - then, i thought what the heck does my size have to do with it - i wont let him make me paranoid......thatd be stupid.......thanks for all your kind words everyone
