Buying a pug 205 MOT Failure

I'm looking at buying a Peugeot 205 MOT failure. Car in question is a 1992 4 door 1.9 Diesel.

MOT Failure points are: CV Joint (yet to find out which side) CV Boot and a flexi hose. Now, I'm a competant amateur spanner monkey but was wondering if anyone has experience of how tricky these jobs might be (or the ease of getting the parts!)

I'm not overly au fait with the 205 so any general pointers for other things to look for would be most appreciated too

This hould be about an hours work (in theory!). Good cars, well built in their day.

Thanks for that Alcot - I did the same job on my old fiesta and it was a doddle. I was just factoring in the "french factor" :rotfl:

I had a 205 GTi as a company car in the early 90's.

Well built wouldn't have been my first thought.

Had 2 of these over 25+ years and 300k miles. Good basic cars with no technical frills to bite you. Google 'gsf car parts' and you can see the prices. Haynes have books which are well worth the price. One for the car and the other the diesel engine. My advice is only get the former. My 2 bit the dust eventually through lack of diy enthusiasm.
  • this car isnt from southampton by any chance is it?

Botley, near southampton. How come?

I did go and have a look at it and the car itself seemed pretty good - I was hard pushed to find anything wrong with it however there was a gut instinct that something wasn't right so didn't make an offer.
