If you are taking your car remember to make sure you have insurance to drive over there for the day, check with your insurance you may need a green card and extra break down cover.

Apart from the cigarettes, what else are you hoping to buy?

If it is just a case of browsing round supermarkets, Belguim really is cheaper, I haven't seen anything recently in Cite de Europe bargain wise.

    Chocolates in Belguim ,Yum.

ideally tobacco is top of the gender, with a smokers in the houshold (their chocie of lifestyle i suppose lol) then its a priority, prob no alcohol

its probably much cheaper to buy tobacco in belgium compared to France.

Come off the ferry and stay in the left hand lane as you leave the ferry port and stay in the left hand lane throughout this will take you directly onto the road to Belguim (A16? check realtobacco map), cross the border (signposted), take the 1st exit (Le Panne) up to the roundabout above the motorway turn left, next roadabout (150yds) turn left you then have about 1/4mile of tobacco shops. Simplees.

As stated in post 11 about 30-40min. What time do you arrive in Calais (local time) or whats your departure time from Dover?

Early Sunday morning we did Calais docks, to tabacco shop, waited 5-10min for shop to open, 4 people did shopping and back to docks in about 90-100min. Helps if you go online, check prices and have order and money ready as the tabacco shops are used to dealing with high volume sales customers very quickly.

    So much nonsense posted.

Car insurance valid in one EU member state is valid in all. No need to go near Green Cards, and in fact, it's not required under the Vienna Convention to carry anything in your car that isn't required in the UK. That means no need for hi viz vests, spare bulbs, fire extinguishers or anything else.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.
