Tax credit underpayment, urgent help required!

hi all,
so i was sorting through my old tax credit rewards as I'm due another baby in early march, and know i'll need to call them when she's born.
Anyway, so was looking through and realised although I'd called them in october 2008 to say I had now left work and was unemplyed and no longer bringing in any income, they hadnt changed it! The award thing from last april said i was unemployed.... but they were still adding my income from when i was working to my partners.... So They were adding an extra £3000 to our annual income since april 2009... I hadn't noticed this before on the tax award as i saw it said i was unemplyed and i had spoken to them on the phone and they told me it was all sorted.... So I called them and said this had happend and the woman i spoke to wasnt very helpful and just said they'll adjust my award from now on till when i next renew.... but she didnt listen when i said can I be backdated... Shall I call again and ask them, or will they just say no as i didnt call when the tax award arrived to say it was wrong? Need your help urgently!

All calls are recorded so you will be able to prove that you called and told them about the changes.

If your circs changed in Oct 08, you're awards for the current year (to Apr 10) and for last year (to Apr 09) will both need adjusting.

If they are adjusting your award you should receive a revised award notice through the post in the next couple of days. I'd suggest waiting for this before calling them again.

When you do get it, see if they have adjusted both years or just the current one. If they have just adjusted the current one you'll need to call them to ask them to adjust last year too.

When you fill in the renewal forms what figure do you put in as what you earned? It should be the figure on your husbands P60. The next year is then based on that figure. Unless you agree to estimate at the higher figure they have written down.
