We're on an extremely low budget, unless I can get winning some comps :rotfl:
Anybody else on a low budget? At the moment I'm thinking registry office, and no reception as such, just a meal in a restaurant afterwards.
Good luck with the comping!Present yourself, press your clothes, comb your hair, clock in
You just cant win just cant win... the things you own, own you0 -
I've spoken to my mum and it's happened...I've started looking at hotels and various other venues  We just can't afford it why am I doing it?!0

ive just bookes one of the old english inn £1000 weddings.
The registry office is £175, £60 to give our notice.
The rest must be cheap cheap cheap.
Might skip the photgrapher. Got a load of m&S invites cheap years ago from dunelm mill. Sister is making a cake, will make favours, mum is making me a bouquet.
Dress will come from debenhams or suchlike as will brides maids a nd paige boy outfits.
Excellent which one are getting wed at? Is it nice? See I think they would be perfect for me being so cheap and I like the old style pub places.0 -

As long as you don't get into loads of debt and you have a wonderful time, then that's why you should be doing it! Go for it and enjoy and have a wonderful marriage to follow, there are so many ways to do it on the cheap.
And besides how many people that spend £10-20K on a wedding can actually afford it? Prob none of them, they either get loans or get it from parents!
Did you have a look at the Old English Inn's, Britannia Hotels or Holiday Inn venues? They all have those £999 deals.
Planning it on the cheap can be all part of the fun, there's nothing better than getting into your own event!0 -
OP, congratulations btw!
We got engaged in Sept 09, and plan on getting married Sept 10.....it puts me off all the planning and money that goes into it all, or rather what other ppl seem to put into it all! Ive confirmed somewhere before my opinion and belief on marriage/weddings, and at the end of the day, its about you 2 getting married and not about anybody else or what they want! Its both yours and your partners day....
We have decided to get married at the church we go to which is a baptist church, and have since been told by the minster that he does not charge for any occasion be it baptisms, funerals or weddings, but we will be giving them a donation.
We are then going to have a bit of a party afterwards as i think we would both regret not having a bit of a do. But im not into the sit down poshed up meal - not me (or my partner) at all! At first, we were not going to have a party, but just a buffet in the church after, thats just a bit boring! LOL.
We are also on a small budget, £3k. Some say thats still a good sum to get you a good wedding, but ive done a spreadsheet (spreadsheet queen!) and it seems hard to fit in everything for that price - food/party seems to be the big cost. We know a photographer who said would give us a good discount, which is the other big cost I believe.
However, I think NikkiTony is right, it is fun planning a wedding on a budget!0 -
NikkiTony, think you are totally right, ppl who have a £10/£20K wedding cant actually afford it, its just trying to keep up with the Jones' and they forget about what the day should be about and become bridezillas/groomzillas!!! They are the ones in debt afterwards and paying for it still after they get divorced!!! LOL0

I was in the exact same position, we got married on christmas eve last year and didnt have very much money but wanted to do something so we had the ceremony at the registery office and reception at home for a few close friends and family, just bought some party food did what i could the night before and the rest on the morn. everyone loved it, had some music playing so some people were dancing, others were in the garden chatting. It was relaxed and not expensive at all. Then we hired a room in town for the night do. You should also look on ebay shops for ur dress presuming you havent got one and want to wear one! I got mine off there for £100, they're all brand new, made to measure. it was gorgeous, no one believed how much i actually paid!! Hope this helped! x0

For my wedding we were in a similiar sitiuation, 1 little girl and full wedding cost out of our own pockets so this is what we did:
I bought 1 wedding dress from ebay then changed my mind and bought one from an Oxfam wedding dress- doesn't sound fancy but they get ex-shop ones and ex-catwalk they also do waistcoats/bridesmaid etc etc
We had our ceremony at the registery office on a WEEK DAY- friday.
Because we had our wedding on a friday we managed to get a lovely resturant function room for free and they offered the waitress services etc free.
Having a wedding on a friday also meant that the photographer would take all pictures and put them on a disk for us for £250.
We only had very close family there to the meal 10 all together including us!
I got a single teir wedding cake off a cake maker on ebay for £35.
We booked a night do on the saturday in a little function room in our village, I got all our familys and friends to muck in with the food and got a large three teir cake off the same ebay lady for £125
Bridesmaid dresses I got off ebay and had the little one altered as it was slightly too big.
I bought "foam" flowers which looked spot on off ebay for £75 that's including the button holes then got £40 back off them when I put them on ebay after the wedding.
As long as your willing to muck in and stick to a set budget you'll do itafter all it's the "being married" thats the most important

it's not about what you spend, the only thing that is important is the ceremony.
My mum and dad stopped counting for my wedding at £16K and it didn't last two years.
I am now a mammy with 29 month old twins and a partner who is fab. Enjoying reading this as we are now getting to the point where we can start saving.
Good luck to everyone!
