Hey, it's Oakham Castle. It doesn't look like a traditional castle but it's hundreds of years old and the big big of the castle has gone now lol. It's this on http://www.rutnet.co.uk/pp/gold/viewGold.asp?IDType=Page&ID=3628

    :D

thats lovely congratulations to you! we are going for cheap and I am sticking to it even if i cant find anything. been looking on and off for 2 years - we were going to elope due to family issues. now thoroughly doing another search of things near us as we thought a few hour garden wedding with picnic/afternoon tea and then leave for honeymoon. all casual and relaxed and nice but we cannot find a thing :( ive tried halls etc etc etc etc. one village hall quoted me £800 for a bare hall and my budget is a £1000 for everything

ive just bookes one of the old english inn £1000 weddings.
The registry office is £175, £60 to give our notice.

The rest must be cheap cheap cheap.
Might skip the photgrapher. Got a load of m&S invites cheap years ago from dunelm mill. Sister is making a cake, will make favours, mum is making me a bouquet.
Dress will come from debenhams or suchlike as will brides maids a nd paige boy outfits.

Yeah there's a massive green and gorgeous grounds, with beatiful backgrounds for pics. :D

The horseshoes, I think are there from every lord (I think?) who has ever visited the castle for luck. Think they all have the names of the Lords that gave them. It's on the link somewhere but I've not read it properly lol.

Oh wow, just read it properly!

'240 horseshoes hang on the walls of the Great Hall. These represent the unique custom that every peer of the realm must give a horseshoe to the lord of the manor on their first visit to Oakham. The custom has been followed for at least 500 years and probably dates back to the 12th century. The oldest surviving horseshoe is said to have been given by Edward IV in about 1470. The most recent were given by HRH The Princess Royal in 1999, HRH The Prince of Wales in 2003 and HRH Princess Alexandra 2005.'

The Toby Carvery idea sounds great, that would be very me and my OH. Lol.

My brother has contemplated a cheap wedding and we've come up with the following idea to keep costs down:

Church Wedding (both regular attenders of stunning local church): £500 to include bells and all other costs
Choir with Musicians: FREE as brother is a teacher at primary school and he's always wanted the kids to sing / play. I think this is well cute, lol.
Suit: Will rent one for the groom and best man and father of bride and groom have offered to pay for their own (so £80)
Car: Uncle has a brand new Jag so that will do nicely!
Bridesmaid dresses: High street sales, so budget of £100 for 3 dresses and shoes (2 are kids though)
Reception: Meal for just the family in a nice pub / restaurant of choice. Will only be 20 people there.
Stationary: Im a graphic designer so Ill do all of this as my gift to them
Flowers: Mum and Nan have offered this as their gift to them
Evening Party: Big party in social club so you pay very small fee, buffet done by family at no cost (each person brings a big plate!).
Rings: Neither are hugely bothered for now so they are planning on a cheapish pair from H Samuels. May replace in years to come when they have some money.

The only thing they arn't including is the brides dress as she's always dreamed of a big white dress. So for this they are saving seperately and I think the brides parents are going to help majorly on this one.

Theyve worked out it should be just over 1k for the day :)

Do you have any family / friends with talents who could help?
