Fridge door not closing

A few weeks ago my fridge stopped closing, instead of it sucking? in as you closed it, it seemed to be repelling the door away and would just bounce open when you let go. Theres nothing trapping it open, nothing broken on the door or the hinges - they all look fine, so we bought a new seal/gasket to go around the door, fitted it and still have the same problem, I'm currently using insulation tape to keep the door closed.

Has this happened to anyone else? don't want to have to replace fridge as its working fine.

Thanks.

  • we had the same problem try emptying the fridge and taking all the shelves and drawers ect out and try the door again
with it bouncing back it sounds like the door is binding

Just took everything out and gave it a clean, still not closing - very strange, thinking about taking the door off and putting it back on

on most fridges the door is reversible. to facilitate this the hinges are removable. not only that they are adjustable. my bet is the door hinge has had a knock, pushing back the hinge. it will need someone with a bunch of screwdrivers to reset the hinges.

Must be a common complaint - the same thing has happened to my fridge !!!

Will have to get OH to get the screw divers out.

    Many thanks

We have one at work where the push switch for the interior light was sticking and holding the door open. Worth a check.

Thanks - but light seems to be going off ok - about an inch before the door is closed, i tried it manually as well and its not sticking.

Going to get OH to take the door off tonight and put it back on again, hopefully that will help.

Nope - it did just need a simple adjustment on the hinge with a screwdriver, if only i'd have known that before ordering a new seal, i'd saved £25! (makes note always to check on MSE first in future) - thanks folks.
