I was booked into a pre-arranged time slot (Saturday) so the 'other technician' would have been standing around for the almost the entire time I was there....

    Stupid logic

If both mechanics worked on the car it doesnt matter what else they would have been doing.

What I meant by that, is that I didn't see a 2nd technician or there being any other work they could have been doing while I was there.

For a garage operating pre-booked timeslots that seem's strange to me.

It would have taken one technician twice as long i.e same man hours.
Only if the work actually required the equivalent of 2 man hours (my initial point)
