London for a week in May?

Morning
Going on a self-funded 5 night course based at Sofitel Gatwick but not keen to stay there. "Have Oyster card, will travel"
and a max budget of £500 for accommodation.
Ideally I'd like high speed-broadband and an apartment hotel so I can cook but I'm at a loss to find anything within my budget that is umm not skanky. I'm scouring tripadvisor and other threads on MSE but any ideas would be super duper!
Thanks

I found this website the other day, if it's of any use.
What I would say is that Gatwick is not in London by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not sure if an Oyster card is of much use down to Gatwick.
Whatever you do, if you are staying in town then you must stay very close to Victoria Station as this and East Croydon are your fastest options to getting out there. East Croydon is on the outskirts of London but the connections into Victoria and out to Gatwick wouldn't take long. Consider the cost of getting down there and back as well!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
