Getting a netbook repaired

I bought my little Acer netbook last February from Comet. I got a good discount because it had been returned as unsuitable, but since the assistant told me there still would be a 1 year warranty as normal I wasn't fussed.
However now the screen has started playing up so that at the largest angle to about 2/3 open there are lots of lines and black parts instead of proper display happening. It seems pretty likely the screen connector cable is loose somewhere.
When I put in the serial number at acer's support website though, it says that the warranty has expired (and did so in the july prior to sale!) so I'm wondering what to do, bearing in mind that the 12 month period will expire in a few more weeks.
What do people suggest? Thanks in advance.

You should take it back to comet.
As with all goods the 1 year warrenty is with who you bought it from (comet) not the manufacturer (acer).
However especially with things like computers they will always try to push you towards the manufacturer.
Read up on your rights and go to comet. With any luck they will be fine but be prepared for an argument if needed.0 -
Thanks so much, I'll get along there!0

Any warranty begins at the date of purchase, not the date of manufacture, which is what the serial number will indicate.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Given that the warranty is still valid, Comet should honor it - up until the expiry date.0 -

Hi Imagia
My name's Phil and I'm from Comet.
Your netbook guarantee does start from the date of purchase and is for 12 months.
The issue will probably have come about because the previous owner has registered the unit with Acer and this requires the serial number to be submitted. They would not be aware that the netbook has been returned and then sold on by us as a used item.
If you would like to send me an e-mail via the link below with your purchase details and the serial number of the netbook, I will look into this matter further for you.

Please mark your e-mail 'FAO Phil.' You will need to register a few details with us to be able to send your e-mail in.
Thanks
