Need to transfer again

Hi,

I've card tarted for the last couple of years with Abbey, HSBC and Virgin. I
need to move the balance again and obviously I can't apply to any of those
companies or their sister cards. I already have a Barclaycard account.

So, I was thinking of applying for the Egg card (there are other options but this
seems the simplest).

So, I was just wondering if there are any potential hazards that I need to be
aware of that might prevent me from a successful application.

My credit score is good and I didn't default on any payments with any of the
cards I've had.

However, might my applications over the last couple of years stop me from a
successful application with the Egg card?

It's a shame there are no 0% for 6 months with no transfer fee as I could really
do with one of those at the moment although I guess it's unlikely in the current
economic climate.

Thx in advance.

  • You have been fortunate that you have had no problems tarting from card to card but I do think that now is the time to start paying back - so rather than getting a 0% card you might be better off getting a low rate LOB card?

You can't transfer directly from a MBNA to a Virgin card, but what you can do, is apply for an MBNA card, if successful transfer your credit limit from your Virgin card to your MBNA card and then transfer money directly to your current account.

If you still have these cards, have you phoned their CS people to ask if there are any offers on your account and (with the exception of Virgin) go through the closure procedure to see if that encourages them to make you an offer to retain you?

Applications more than 12 months old don't show on your credit report so they won't make any difference. Advice from underwriters I've had is that searches more than 6 months old don't count either.
