You can book the church or registery office and the venue without a decree absolute, BUT before church or registery office read the bans, 21 days before the marriage, they will need to see a decree absolute. I did this with my hubby, we booked everything up and then had to pick up the absolute and show it to the registrar BEFORE they would read the bans, this is the same for a church.

We did a mad countryside dash the day finalised things at registery office by picking the absolute up from the court and then driving round the country to the two registery offices in question.

As the title says 'Is it possible to book your wedding without having obtained your Decree Absolute?'

My friend and her ex hubby split summer 2008, they received the Decree Nisi about a year ago. They still have to sort a few financial matters. However her ex has told her that he has already booked his next wedding which is soon (hes not said exactly when) so has asked her to chase up the Decree Absolute.

He can not get married without the DA and neded to show proof that he is free to marry. He would be daft to spend money on wedding deposits without it.

Even thought my DHs ex was the petitioner in his divorce, my DH filed for the DA as his ex was stalling on it even after a year, and she gave no reason why . The judge swiftly granted him the DA on the basis that she took to long without good cause.
