No banks giving me accounts?

I have a Current account with RBS, with a £50 overdraft and also a £100 cheque guarentee card.

I'm wanting to move banks as I REALLY don't like RBS.

I have checked my credit report and I have no defaults, and only 1 or 2 missed payments on catalogues.

I've been trying to get a bank account with another provider but they all seem to be rejecting me, does anyone have any ideas why?

I bet I can guess. They've had bank charges and think the grass is greener.

You'd find it easier to get a basic bank account, though that won't come with an overdraft or cheque guarantee card.
  • Even good accounts no longer get cheque guarantee cards.
  • I'm having a similar problem, I'm 19 and I've been trying to upgrade my account at Nationwide that I've had since I was a child to a Flexaccount with a debit card. But am having problems due to have no credit rating. At the moment I only have a cashcard and have to use atms all the time. I've spoken to the bank many times, but they keep saying that i need to have a job and have money going in regularly and build it up and eventually my credit rating will build up, but I've had a job for the last year and a half, have roughly £100 to £200 or more going into it every week and no more than £100 going out for rent and such, and have about £2000 worth of savings. But this seems to make no difference they keep telling me there's nothing they can do, and to come back in a few months. It's too frustrating to have to keep borrowing my friends' and families' cards to buy things.
I have also tried other banks and applying for student accounts since I'm going to University next year, but everywhere is rejecting me due to no crediting rating and as I understand then making my credit rating even lower.

Try opening a basic bank account. Most of them come with a debit card: http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf

IME, Barclays can be a good bet. Open a cashcard account with them (isn't credit checked atall), which comes with a Visa debit card, and as long as the account is run properly (no instances of overdrawn and no charges with good turnover) for six months they should happily open a full current account. They have with me and I was only discharged form Bankruptcy last March!!
