Rental fee's

Hi Everyone

Hope someone out there can help me. I am currently living in a flat that my dad owns and he now wants to sell it. I have never rented before through a letting agent etc and I have found a lovely flat through a letting agent and I am going to call them tomorrow to arrange a viewing. I was wondering what fees exactly will I have to pay? I have some money saved away for the deposit and months rent but really just looking for some advice before I go and view it, I dont want to waste anybodys time.

Thanks advance for your help.

Fees vary widely from agent to agent and from area to area, so nobody can answer that question! You will definitely need one months deposit plus one months rent up front, also most charge for referencing. Does the letting agent have a website, perhaps their charges are listed?

  • I have enough saved up for deposit and rent. Ive checked there website and there is nothing that says anything about charges. The other thing that is worrying me is that I only moved into my fathers flat after I left home and so to speak do not have any references, apart from my dad who would be able to give me and my fiance a good report but I am worried that the letting agents wouldnt accept that. Do letting agents do a credit check on u?

Yes you will almost certainly be credit checked, as eco-says you should be registered to vote. Reference from an employer or family friend of professional standing (doctor, solicitor, teacher) will usually do in place of a landlord.
