Yes I saw this but was interested to know what misgrace was thinking.....
Hi Foggster, my thoughts are exactly the same as keystone, everything he said I would have said.:D
I agree with the undercoat way, also when come to painting the bathroom walls again, I would use thinner coats, and not use the paint straight from the can.
I would imagine the cause is where the walls havent been mistcoated first using a matt paint.
Some people make the mistake of using bathroom paint straight onto new plaster, its a definate nono, you must always seal the new plaster with a mistcoat of Matt, then you can apply the bathroom paint, slightly thinned.0 -
This has been an interesting thread to read because we recently had some extensive work done on our property and I was faced with 4 rooms of bare plaster to be decorated. Initially I was told to do the PVA thing.
So when you say "mist" the walls what does this actually mean? I applied 3 coats of a 70/30 paint/water mix to the wall with a roller allowing it to dry around 5 days per coat.
What are the chances of me falling foul of peeling paint in the near future?:o0 -
Hi again, thank goodness you didnt PVA the walls , you would be jumping off a cliff by now lol.
You should have no problems with your walls now, 70/30 is a good ratio, then with every subsequent just add less water.
You need'nt ( bad grammer I know) have waited 5 days between coats lol, but at least you were careful, and painted the new plaster correctly0 -
Thanks everyone - the way ahead seems clear now. I just need to find a decent decorator who will follow that path or convince my dad that he is far better than any decorator out there!
It is interesting how everyone has their methods that work for them - orthodox or otherwise but clearly they have all worked at some time or there are some twisted people on this forum trying to sabotage people's diy efforts lolIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Sorry I should have said I left 5 days because it was done at weekends!! LOL and not because I was being uber careful, however, it seems it wasnt a bad move after all.
Thank you and I am pleased to report my walls look lovely! :j0 -
My turn to agree 100% with MissG - must be careful people might talk
.
@ Foggster - pleased you are pleased with your walls. Too late now but if you want a really, really topnotch finish a very light rub with a very fine grit abrasive between coats brings it up lovely.
