i know i know, girlfriend has got a 07 plate Seat and missed her first service by a lot (should of bee ndone at 12k, now at 24k):rolleyes:
What options has she got? obviously going to get it done asap, guessing a main dealer is going to charge the earth, so thinking of going to an independant garage and get them to stamp the service book, looked through the service detials and a lot of it is just basic checks etc
Whats a service going to cost her?
thanks in advance

When you buy a product, it comes with an instruction manual.
Cars are the same. It shocks me the number of people who are allowed to buy cars and not know about servicing.
Anyway, ask your local Trading Standards if they can recommend anyone for servicing. Avoid ATS, KwitShit type places.0 -
Bear in mind not having your car serviced to the manufacturers specification could affect your warranty. If I were your girlfriend I'd take it back to Seat to have it serviced, and do so asap.0

Some new cars only have a service every 2 years my vauxhall does its called an eco service every 2yrs or 20k, The service record is at the back of the booklet. Have alook in your book is there only the option of 12month services?
You may be suprised at main dealer prices, i use main dealer and its no more than a local garage, I just had full service with brake fluid change and MOT for £200, which I didnt think was bad.0 -
Will missing the service void the warranty? If so i'd forget the main dealer and find an independant garage where it will probably cheaper for a full service.
Double check first though about the warranty issues as they may not go by service in years but in mileage.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
If the manufacturer's interval is 12k and it's now on 24k with no service, it will almost certainly void the warranty, as most state somewhere that it needs to be done within 1,000 miles (or a certain %) of the stated mileage etc.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0

The service should not cost anything more than the 12k service.
Will be changing the same consumables and performing the same checks + any issues they may find.
As to the damage done - depends on the driving style and the quality of the original consumables - mainly the oil.
As most new vehicles sit in fields for 6 months before being sold the oil will after 24k be pretty poor.
The engine may have suffered premature wear, then again may be equally just fine.
Most services are just to get you back to the garage, a little like the "best before" food produce. It is usually fine after the stated date, and they include some slack.
100% more though on the "best before" is not a great idea, and the sausages by this point will be a little hairy.
As to the warranty - that will depend on the dealers terms and conditions.
Having said that, owning a new car and traveled for 24k without it being checked is pretty foolhardy. The MOT after 3 years is on the basis it has at least been serviced!
May have got away with it - but the next owner is going to be taken for a mug no doubt!0
