Financial incentives and disincentives have a clear bearing on the way we live our lives. Social engineering is and always has been a fact of life. That's what government means. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/government
the political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of a state, community, etc.; political administration: Government is necessary to the existence of civilized society.

This proposal is only one small part of the package that would come if we get a new government. We'll see how any financial measures affect peoples’ lifestyles when we can look back, in a few years time.

Merely an observation. That more needs to be done to support the fabric of family life. For many not so fortunate life certainly isn't funny. And often carrys on for generations as its the only way thats known.

I not advocating marriage in particular. But anything which provides a stability for children should be supported.

When you've met a mother of 8 children (lady aged 31) by 6 different fathers. You'll appreciate the time and resources that goes into supporting such a family.

Locally 70% of the social care budget is spent on just 8% of the families assisted. Us, the taxpayer is funding this.

I realise that, but feel thats really got nothing to do at all with tax / marriage- which is why I made it clear from the start of the thread that it is deep rooted values that are the issue here, not lack of the physical presence of a peice of paper.... and a token tax break for having one :A
