PVC door problems

We have recently bought a property with a lovely PVC door which locked fine for about 3 months but we are now getting problems. Basically you can lock the door which involves lifting the handle and turning the key a full 360 (standard) but it doesnt quite go 360 and this is the problem because it wont allow to take the key out!

Couple of questions. Has anyone ever had this trouble and how was it solved and if not who do I call i.e. a fitter or a locksmith.

Any help gratefully received. We have access to the back of the property so its not a major problem and the house is secure but it would be nice to use the front door again!!

The barrel may need to be replaced. This is very easy to do if you want to DIY.

If I said I dont fancy DIYing it, who would I call please?

May I suggest for a temporary measure use WD40, that usually help.

New barrel, about £10 from screwfix, it's all self contained, and held in with 1 screw in the side of the door, in line with the lock.
Take the screw out, out the key in and turn until you can pull the barrel towards you.
  • If the lock operates properly with the door open it's likely the lock and mechanism are OK, the levers might not be engaging the keeps, in which case the door can possibly be adjusted. Check your local paper for repairers.

I did use WD40 when the problem first occurred.

It still doesnt release the key when the door is open so I am happy its engaging the keeps.

So is it a locksmith or a PVC door/window person I need to call?

No the key will not come out if the door is in the locked position either when its open or closed.

ok you need a new barrel, simple job if you look around the net, but if you dont want to tackle it a locksmith should do it for about £60 all in.
