Need advice about cooked food left in kitchen overnight

This happens in chezCracker all the time and we're still alive! A big pan of something is made at night; we have it for supper that day, leave covered on the stove (cos the pan won't fit in our fridge!), then for lunch and usually supper the next day. Trick is to remember to only reheat it once, so take out what you want to use for the next meal and heat it up thoroughly in another pan (take the original pan off the stove for this obviously) or in the microwave. As long as the kitchen is not warm, it'll be fine.DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

I'm always doing that, usually through laziness or drunkeness (sometimes both together). I always have lids on my pans so this offers rudimentary protection from the outside world. (A previous cat once nicked stewed steak from a pan) Next day its a panic to get portions into freezer containers.
Have yet to die or experience symptons of food posioning. But I tend to agree with other posters be wary of overly warm kitchens and never keep cooked rice.
