Starting a business, what happens to benefits

I really hope you have thought out the business better than your living arrangements! As far as I know, you won't be eligible for JSA as you will not meet the criteria (you will not be available for work). Based on the few facts you have given us, you are not entitled to DLA or CA as there is no one with a disability and therefore no care needs in your family. Same goes for ESA. Finally you don't meet the criteria for Income Support. So that leaves you with nothing.
Have you considered at all how you are going to support yourself and your family? Perhaps you should concentrate on getting a full time job and save some money so your family can eat before you consider starting a business. It is admirable to have ambitions, but you have to be realistic about achieving such ambitions. Honestly, if you are dependent on benefits and can't even buy a pint of milk, how do you intend running a business? They require an almost constant cash flow.0 -
Sorry i'm not in a position to help on a benefit front and i am sure you are going to struggle for a while, but good on you for giving it a go, you are setting a cracking example to your kids by trying to get of benefits. i wish you all the luck in thed worldcaptain_nugget wrote: »Hi all. I've been working 16hrs per week for the last few months and getting WTC and CTC to help out. I've kept the hours at 16 because I've been getting ready to start a business. The business starts in about 5 weeks, I'm just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what will happen benefits wise when I call them up and tell them my circumstances have changed. I won't be drawing a wage for at least 3 months. Am I looking at income support? Am I entitled to anything at all?
Thanks for any input.0 -

He actually wants more benefits not less.0 -
i think the op was asking if he was able to claim for help during his transition period not a life time of benefits. if he doesn't make it at least he's tried. if he was a scrounger who was work shy someone would slag him off for that, dammed if he does dammed if he doesn't0

Oh come on! Who in their right mind starts a business with not a brass farthing to their name, dependent on benefits to survive? Surely it would have made more sense to save some cash - both to live on and to aid the business.
If the OP is not able to meet the main point of JOB SEEKERS allowance then why should it be paid? How long should the OP be entitled to tax payers money without seeking employment before we say enough? One year? Two?0 -

If you’ve been unemployed for six months or more and have claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance, Jobcentre Plus has a package of support which includes a self-employment credit of £50 a week for up to 16 weeks. This is payable whether you launch a business or move into self-employment.
Which doesn't apply to the OP.*SIGH*
