BT Unltd lock in

Hi

I was planning to switch to BT from sky, to take advantage of bt credit card discounts which they say discounts the bill upto £75 a year.

But according BT there's a minimum contract of 12 months (which I happy to commit to and applies to most of the new contracts) but the catch is that this contract is renewed automatically at the end of each term which if effect won't let me leave them without paying a penalty if I want to get out.

I'm happy to stick with them for the first 12 months but the automatic renewal which applies to both line rental and calls is ridiculous. I was with bt before abt 14 months ago but in my last contract there was no such auto extension terms were in place.

Could you guys help me with this. Is that really legal and or is there any way around it. please let me know.

An automatic 12 month contract renewal? Really?

I've heard of the 'renewable' contract necessary in order to get the Unlimited Evening & Weekend calls plan free of charge but not of anything relating to line rental.

Do you have a link to that please?

    (24) If you agree to take a calling plan on a renewable basis, at the end of the initial and any subsequent 12 month minimum period, the contract will be automatically renewed for a further 12 months unless you tell us you do not want to continue. We will write to you a month before the renewal date to remind you of this and let you know what to do should you not wish to renew your contract

As I said, that's a 'renewable' Calling Plan contract, not a line rental contract.

If you don't agree to take a calling plan on a renewable basis, then clause 24 does not apply
