  • The steam maybe loosening the gunk in your throat? sorry I couldn't think of a nicer way to phrase that, but I used to have the same problem. Try turning the heat down - have a lukewarm shower and it won't be so bad.

Could there be any mould spores that you'd be allergic to in there?

Yes, steam is the best way to loosen a gunky chest.
If you are congested, the bowl of hot water with a spoon of Vick vapour rub, with a towel over you head is really good.

Yep, the steam loosens the gunk in your chest. Im assuming this mostly happens in the morning? When lying down/sleeping, all the stuff "rests" in the back of your chest. When you get up, gravity causes it to move, hence the feeling to need to cough.

Well the steam would explain you, but probably not your girlfriend - unless she's been ill too?

Is it a recent thing? Are you using any new products? Dove does that to me, I feel like I can't breathe and start having coughing fits.

Could also be mould as jackieb said.

Not sure about the bleach - I find it makes me cough! What do Aggie and Kim use that's natural against mould?

    You could try this. http://www.livingclean.co.uk/about/media.edp.php
    • A solution of one part borax and three parts water will get rid of mould and mildew.
  • Do you have asthma?
I do and it was undiagnosed for years as I don't wheeze just cough, and I find that different atmospheres set it off e.g. cold to hot, damp, dry, certain perfumes etc
if it keeps happening might be worth getting assessed for asthma.
