Halfords sat nav

i think halfords will lose on this one as the sale of goods act 1979 is with the shop you bought it from i had the same problem with some hair straightners which the hairdresser told me to send them back to manufacturer but spoke to trading standards who told me what to do hairdresser soon changed them.what a rough policy halfords have not only over priced but a bad service..

Good point Astaroth. I guess the OP does need to try it outside the car then.. if it still doesn't work then the ffp issue is cut and dried.

Having said that, a Halfords employee did fit it into the car and said it will work no problems. Do you happen to know where he now stands on the ffp issue if indeed the unit isn't faulty and the Halfords employee made a mistake on it being usable in that particular car?

Illegal Terms & Conditions as they contravene the Sale of Goods Act.

Report them to Trading Standards - they will deal with Halfords.

In the mean time, did you pay by credit card? If so, take it up with your card company as well.

I had the same issue with Halfords re a Medion sat Nav that was bought for me.Unfortunately as it dragged on, someone tried to fix it for me, and did something that invalidated the guarantee at one point- and I had to let the matter drop.I found the store to be very badly run with only one junior member of staff knowing what he was doing,and everyone else doing very little.I too was told that they would not give me my money back and that they displayed a sign.I was also told that the main company who do the repairs were incompetant (they never got it working) we later suspected the problem was actually the ariel, and i tried it in several cars and on foot and it seemed to have an intermittant fault. I too believe the sign and their policy is illegal,and they are doing this because they are losing so much money on these systems.Good luck-I wish I could have persued it-I just got a Tom Tom and had no problems with that one.Let us know how you got on!

Maybe they dont like refunding them because of the software, same as you cant get a refund for a CD for example only an exchange because you could buy it copy the software then take it back ?

After the store manager refused to do anything about it and even said he was not worried about trading standards as they could do nothing, I finally got through to someone at Halfords customer service who listened.
She said I was to take it back and that the manager would contact Garmin to authorise a return or refund. I also told her how he had just stood there grinning at me like a fool and about the letter they are giving people saying to contact manufacturer in event of problems. She even said that they would not do this.
Was funny to see how appologetic he was and how quick he hid a copy of the "contact manufacturer" letter when I went in.

So I have my refund now. Thanks for all the replies and I did try it outside and it still lost reception.

grr what an idiot! halfords are complete !!!!!!, ive had some trouble with them in the past.
