Cavity Wall insulation

On Friday I had a call from a company called Energy Conservation Centre who said they were ringing on behalf of the Government! they asked about cavity wall insulation, when I said I didn`t have any they said we would be eligible to have this done for free as we have a child under 16. They made an appointment for 2pm tomorrow for a surveyor to call but before I could get a phone number she was gone off the phone. I`ve been thinking about this all night and havn`t heard that its free unless you are on benefits, pensioner or have low income. Please can anyone help with any info as I don`t really want to let anyone into my house (she said he will have id) if I`m not sure what is going on.

Many thanks

give these peeps a call and check to see if you are being scammed.

your call sounds more like the old DG methods of sales/marketing.
    Get some gorm.

Many thanks ormus, I will ring them first thing in the morning. I don`t normally get caught out with these type of things but she just sounded so genuine and told me 3 times as I had a child under 16 it was free!!

Thanks, think we might actually be eligible for this one as our boiler is about 20 years old. In the next few weeks are starting to get estimates for a garage conversions which will involve a new boiler and heating system for the whole house. However, not 100% sure how it works - I think you get your estimates, then apply and you get x weeks to have the work done - you pay for it, then get reimbursed! me thinks. (but might not be that simple)
  • sound like BS to me my dad got his done but he's over 70
Nothing to see here, move along.

ive been told that you get a 400 quid voucher to offset the price.
i assume you then give the voucher to the installer. and they claim the dosh back off the gov.

Thanks. I`ll have to investigate further, I thought we got the voucher and then when the work was done we had to claim the £400 (could be me not quite understanding) will got into it properly in the next few weeks.

When I was out at work they Cavity wall person rang - I rang back and cancelled, fifteen minutes later (2 hours before the agreed time) their surveyor called and stood on my doorstep for 10 mins (I was on the phone honest.. didn`t like the look of him and I was on my own) he put a photocopied slip of paper through the letterbox so I rang again and cancelled (left message and asked them not to call again) he has just come back and has been banging on my lounge window.

I have never been caught out before by a phone call this is a first and I must admit I am feeling quite uncomfortable in my own home. I have cancelled twice and he has still come round. My daugher will be here tonight on her own for an hour and I am dreading him comin back. I can`t beleive I was so daft as to make an appointment in the first place.
