Peugeot 307 brakes
Hi,
I recently had a full service done at Nationwide Autocentre and was charged £265.62 for "Rear brake discs excessively fitted - supply and fit rear brake discs and pads."
I challenged the price as it seemed steep and the Manager said they are expensive because they have bearings
Is this roughly the right price?
Also, I need to take the car back to them as whenever I drive now there is smoke coming from around the engine area and the smell of burning oil. This never happened before the service and has started ever since I had it back. Any ideas?
Thanks

The smoke will be oil that has dripped somewhere from when they did the oil change. So that just wants cleaning off. Simple.
Did they phone you to say the rear discs were excessively pitted and did you then autherize them to do the work?
Some rear discs do have the wheel bearing in them.0 -
Careful with the oil, if they did spill some it should have burnt off by now. If its still happenening its likely that the oil filter seal has failed/installed incorrectly/not tight, before you drive it back to them please, please, please check the oil level. If it runs out engine damage can/will occur.I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling0

These type of places will NEVER charge a fair price. They are a ripoff from start to finish.
You could take your car to another Autocentre and they would say your rear brakes are pitted and require replacement right now.
You haven't told us what kind of car you have, if you want to ask about these type of questions, you should let us know what model car you have.
There is a set of both front and rear discs and pads for £65 delivered on Ebay

Hey,
Thanks for all your replies! My car is a Peugeot 307 S (90).
They did call to say that the brakes needed doing as they caused the car to fail its MOT and they were expensive because they have bearings. I said yes to having it done because I need my car for work.
Harveybobbles - yes pitted was the word not fitted, but thats how they spelt it on the final summary sheet. Professional eh?
I have had a look under the bonnet and can't see any oil, not that I know what I am looking for. I shall check the oil level in order not to cause damage to my car and will return it to them.
I used Nationwide Autocentre because of the Tesco Deals, however I am reluctant to use them again!0
