Broken Garage Door Wire - Repair or Replace?

One of our Garage door wires broke last night and after hours of pushing and pulling at it a neighbour, who is a handyman, finally got it back into the runners and got it closed.
He told us that the entire door would have to be replaced but to me this seems a little drastic as it it only a wee wire that has snapped, the door itself is fine. Is he right or can the wire be replaced on its own?

Its a bit more difficult than that because there is a very large spring or maybe two to consider. You may need two people to do it. Take off the two pieces of wire and take them withyou when go to buy one , I have usually made up my own. Not a difficult job and at less than a fiver a lot less than the cost of a new door. (which you would have to fit) regards bri0

Find a local garage door company. They often havce a service department and will replace the cable. Shouldn't cost more than £50.00Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
