Thailand in August...?

I'm thinking of going to Thailand In August but am a bit unsure how much the "rainy season" will affect my trip. Has anyone been at this time of year?
I'm not sure where in Thailand - have been looking at Phuket and am looking for a relaxing trip enjoying the beaches and seeing as much of Thailand as I can in 2 weeks - any tips or info regarding the weather in August would be welcome!

I dont think it rains that much really. A friend of mine went eaerly July and he said the weather was great over the 2 weeks, bar 1 day.But he just went out that day anyway.

last year in august we saw the sun for 3 days
was overcast and rained alot
