Credit card subscriptions auto renewal

A lot of companies like to automatically charge you to renew their. The RAC, Adrian Flux and various do this. I can understand RAC but Adrian Flux just renewing insurance without you having the chance to get other quotes seem fraudulant. Thankfully my card had been previously misplaced and then replaced by the card company so the card number had changed. I only realised they [Adrian Flux] were trying to renew my policy when i recieved an email saying they could not!
Recently Datingdirect have automatically charged another six month subscription charge of approx £60. I phoned and challenged them about this, not having used the service for at least 10 months and they told me they operate a no refund policy. Does this contravene my consumer rights? Surley companies cannot just charge you again and again without your consent.
Should i contest this with Barclaycard ?

What were the T&Cs you agreed to when you signed up to Datingdirect?
If the autorenewal was stated on there (which I bet it was) there isn't cause for complaint.0 -
Auto renewal is quoted by these people as a convenience and some where in the small print they will have detailed it. These people rely on inertia, most people put it down to experience when bitten and suffer the loss.
Don't. Write them a letter stating that you will take them to Court in 28 days (give them a date) if the amount is not refunded: they will almost certainly cough up.
If not issue default summons on-line through Northamption County Court. cost you a few quid but you will get that back when they settle which they will do.
Going to Court will cost them several hundred pounds and the won't risk CCJ for 60 quid and it won't only be the 60 quid they could get claims from thousands of previously caught customers if Court agrees with you. Quote unfair contract terms if they quote small print. claim for interest from time of payment (Court will tell you correct rate)
Done this few times, always works, even got British Gas after a year of wasted correspondence and you have nowt to loose except the few quid court costs.0 -

Thanks arborlinden, If it was in their T&C's which i should have read could i still go the court route?
Could i persue the non recognised payment on my Barclaycard statement?0 -
No and No in my opinion!0

Last year I had fraudulent transactions on my card, they were for Norton Antivirus, Microsoft and they tried to buy an Apple computer.
My Card was stopped and a new one sent. This year I get the same amount for Norton Annual renewal. I asked Barclaycard about this and they said they didn't need a card number to continue charging this amount. Only my details!
Since the only detail about me they would have had would be my name I find this incredibly stupid.
I have no doubt that Barclaycard will refund the amount but it seems I may end up being charged forever for a fraud transaction.
Norton were pretty unhelpful when I spoke to them and clearly didn't believe what I was saying either.0 -
