cheap meal for 2 Reading please

With grateful thanks to another poster, we have just booked one night in Reading for our anniversary in June. Now Im desperately searching for a nice place to eat, nothing fancy (money VERY tight due to disability and benefits) a nice pub meal will do.

Many thanks in advance

    Enjoy

choice of beautifully cooked joints of meat – it’s what we’re famous for and why you keep coming back.
Choose from one or all of our three succulent roasts:
    • British or Irish Beef
    • Honey & Mustard Glazed Gammon
    • British Turkey
There's always a great choice of freshly steamed or roasted vegetables on offer. And they're constantly being replaced all day, so you can be sure that every time you go back for more, they'll have all their flavour. Everyone's favourite is Yorkshire pudding cooked to perfection in-house by our own chefs, plus our delicious sauces and gravies and our oven-baked stuffing. Go on, have as much as you like of these - we know you'll want to.
    Carvery Alternatives

Here are our choice of non-carvery dishes. Or you could take a look at our Pub Food menu served in the carvery or pub, wherever you like.
    • Lemon & Pepper Chicken Salad
    • Chicken Tikka Salad
    • Beef & Theakstone's Ale Pie (All day Mon-Sat)
    • Turkey, Gammon & Mushroom Pie (All day Mon-Sat)
Today's Vegetarian Choice V (choice of two dishes could be Mushroom Lasagne, Bean Hash, Broccoli & Brie Parcel or Spicy Veg. Crumble)
    • Fish special of the day (choice from Yellow Fin Sole or Sea Bass)
    * This offer excludes Bank Holidays

Depending on the vouchers going at the time, Pizza Express and Wagamama can work out very "reasonable".
There's also a Chinese eat all you can buffet at the Butts, but I think it's lunchtime only
The Caversham Toby is alright, but check which days the offer is on (might not be Sundays).

China Palace (Oxford Road, near Argos). All you can eat buffet, the kind where you get a massive menu and can order as much as you like. It's £15 per head and drinks are around £3 (even for soft drinks). They will make a fuss of you if you tell them it's a special occasion.

Pizza Express/wagamama/strada/ask etc... as above- great if there's an offer on.

Loch Fyne- a bit more expensive but they do sometimes have offers on.

London street brasserie is lovely but quite a bit more expensive.

If you're not in the centre and want some recommendations I can post again- My la carte (spelling that wrong) is lovely.

Not a problem at all, and thanks all for taking the time to post. It would be nice to have a 'proper' meal, just kind of presumed it would be a pub meal but Im open to all suggestions ;)
