Sainsbury home delivery didn't

We were away over Christmas and New Year returning just as the really bad weather started on 5th Jan.
Neither of us were well, my husband is having a really bad relapse of rheumatoid arthritis and I just felt so poorly. A visit to the doctor gave me a diagnosis of laryngitis and bronchitis. Antibiotics started and I decided after a few days living on stocks already in that I would do a big order with Sainsburys. We have no car or family close enough to help this pair of pensioners.
Anyway fast forward to Wednesday 13th. Delivery due between 7 and 8 pm as we had a hospital appointment and I wasn't sure how long we would be out of the house. We got back, after using public transport both ways. Although it had snowed in the morning the roads were clear, buses running on time, postie came etc.
Checked my messages on the phone and Sainsburys had phoned to cancel our delivery citing the weather. The message was left 8 hours before the delivery was due. OK I thought and phoned to check the delivery would be made the next day.
Oh no I was told, that order has been expunged as if it never was. I needed to go to their website and re-order the whole thing. Not only that but I also was being put to the back of the queue for a delivery slot. First available was Monday 18th.
Is this the usual practice for the supermarkets or have I just been unlucky?

yes these home delivery food services are hopeless in the bad weather aren't they. its best to only order items you are in no rush for and don't really need because in general they have proved to be unreliable, and give very little notice of cancellation.squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

One other point,as the deliveries are shopped in your local store,if the weather is affecting store deliveries, you wont get what you've ordered if the store has'nt been restocked.0

Hi there, I do a lot of my food shopping on line and have used Tesco, Sainsburys & Ocado. Sainsbury's have cancelled on me a few of times over the years (due to weather and staff & van probs) and are often late in delivering. Ocado are very good, they even got to me in the snow BUT sent a text early on in the day to say they may be late - but he was on time. And Tesco and Sainsburys are the nearest to me, Ocado has to travel about 15 miles from it's base to get to me!0
