Pension credit

I am being forced to retire on the 5th February because I have reached the grand old age of 65. I already get abasic pension but I still have a mortgage to pay plus credit card debts. Anyone know how long it takes to sort out Pension Credit so that the mortgage at least would be paid. The house is presently up for sale and when it is sold (who knows when) I intend to rent but until a buyer is found I'm stuck!!
Any ideas please.

Can't really say as a lot of benefit claims are now taking a long time to process, often several weeks. I'd make an advance claim immediately if I were you. You will get help towards your mortgage if you meet the conditions but nothing towards your cc debts

    Hiya

There are some jobs albeit mainly part time, for people over 65 so you may not need to claim Pension Credit.
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

  • I would put a claim in now. The governments say a single person need to live on £130.00 person and a couple £198.45. What pension credit and or savings credit will depend on what income you have coming in i.e. your state pension your works pension if you have any, your savings and investment any other land and property you may have. There are other factors taken into account but too many for me to say at the moment.

If you have all the details ready to send to them when requested it won’t take as long as others have a pen ready when you call take down all details of requested information to save time. You will need all your Morgage details.

Hope that helps you a little.

In addition to the amounts Mother_hub has stated, you can add the amount they will pay for housing costs if the mortgage is (and you are) eligible.

If you are saying 'forced' you give the impression that you do want to carry on working, whats to stop you looking for work elswhere, B&Q recruit, even welcome older staff as well as many of the supermarket. You wont need to
    claim pension credit then.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
