    Tallyhoh is right. When I became my mother's attorney, I had to send standard letters to my siblings to tell them so that they could object if they wanted to. They knew my mother was appointing me but I still had to let them know.
  • Your mil has to be competent and have capacity to give consent. The whole Mental Capacity Act is a nightmare, but the hospital Consultant in charge of her care should be able to arrange for her to have an appropriate assessment, to see if she has the capacity to make those type of specific decisions.

    right now your FIL should be next of kin, and the hospital should refer all decisions to him. its still worth looking on the above sites, as since power of attorney has been reformed - its a minefield!
