Urgent help needed with E-on.

Hi

My cousin and her partner own a house.
The guy has gone and his name is still on the mortgage. The utilities are in the joint name (E-on) gas and electric. They are £150 in credit with it, and he has cancelled the account and the money in credit is going to him. Now she is going to be left without any utilities and they are saying that one policy holder can cancel it without the others agreement regardless of the fact she still lives here.

Is this legal?
What can be done?

Please help

Well the supplier will want to bill someone, so I guess they will be more than welcome if your cousin contacts the supplier and sets up an account in her own name only :)

    Hi indierocker85,

This isn't a very nice situation to be in at all.

It sounds like the partner that has left has advised E.ON that they have moved out and closed the account all together, also providing meter readings to receive the credit refund.

They may not have said that anyone would remain in the house, so E.ON would not know. The account was probably just closed as a normal house move. E.ON would not need all named on the bill to inform them of this.

The house will still be supplied by E.ON for the energy used, the partner remaining in the house will need to contact E.ON to set up an account in their name, they can also set up a new payment arrangement. I would also advise them to provide up to date meter readings.

    Hope this helps a little.
