Maternity Benefits - advice please?

Hello,

Currently we both work full time and combined salary is above the level where you can claim for benefits (I think it might be Child tax credit/WTC)? We have one child (3yo) already.

When other half goes on maternity leave, it will just be my salary (and her SMP), which will leave us under the level required level.

Is it possible to qualify for some credits for the time she is on maternity? Not sure if we could apply for 6 months while she is on maternity and then stop getting extra help once she goes back to work.

Does anyone have any ideas? Sorry for being so vague, but we currently we are not within guidelines to receive any benefits, therefore have no idea if the above is even possibel. many thanks in advance!

i take it you have applied in the past and are on the system, due to having a 3yr old?

if, not apply now. yes if you currently have no childcare costs, and your income is over £55k, then you wont be getting any payments, but you can still be registered

then once you OH starts to receive SMP, contact them and give them your new lower income. once your OH goes back to work, contact them again, and they will revise your award again
