Is it possible to get a loan on benefits

I have managed to get out of a domestic violent relationship after 4 years of abuse and debts he ran up that caused us both into bankruptcy which I have now been released from. I have moved myself and children into rented accomodation and get help with housing and council tax benefits, I also work part time so get working tax credits etc. I am financially in a far better position then I was when I was with my husband. However my current problem is that my estranged husband got extremely violent over christmas period because I would not take him back and slashed all the tyres on my car and is also taking the car away from me (car is on hp and all in his name so he is entitled to). I have been off work with depression for a few weeks and was planning on going back but it really is impossible without a car.

Does anyone know of anywhere genuine (I have just been conned by one company who took a £50 set up fee for a loan but according to a forum on here they dont actually pay up) where I can get a loan??

Please only reply to my question but dont if you want to critisie be about being an ex bankrupt.

thanks

How recently have you been discharged from bankruptcy? I think this will be more of a problem than your current source of income.

Are you still employed? Will you be able to afford the repayments? Is there really no way that you can work without a car?

Been released from bankruptcy for over 2yrs now.

Impossible to get to my job without a car.

I have been paying hp of £150 a month on a £5k loan but hp is in estranged husbands name and he is taking it away from me. I want to borrow alot less then £5000 so payments should be less then the £150 I have been paying so yes I can afford the repayments.

Sorry I can't help with advice but I hope it costs him an arm and a leg to get new tyres - a car's not much use without those LOL.

Have you asked your bank? This tends to be a good indicator as to whether any mainstream lender will consider you.

As noted in another thread, you don't need £2,500 to get a car. I would be looking at £500 max. Once you get into debt it can become an endless spiral, as I'm sure you already know.

most companies who charge £50 are a loan broker not a loan company thats their brokerage fee, a lot of companies are at this scam the gov should stop it. as side note someone i know got caught like you, they sent a letter to the company stating they were under the impression the fee was for a loan admin and they felt defrauded by the companys actions and please could they have the amount back or they would contact the office of fair trading. they got the money back from the company with a short sentenced letter, you can also complain to the office of fair trading and theyll deal with them.
