Boundary Wall issue with neighbour

Hello,
We have a dispute with a neighbour in that we want to build an adjoining garage to the end of an existing block of garages on our parking space but have issues with the boundary wall.
Basically the neighbours garage wall is on their boundary so it is not a party wall jointly owned by us and our neighbour. Therefore to join up to his roof we would need permission from them of which is not forthcoming. We have tried to resolve ammicably but to no avail. Is there any other way of getting permision to join to their garage? We have had surveyors involved and they say that because the wall is owned by them and not jointly then its not a party wall issue.
The only other option is to building another wall on our side up against their wall but this would mean the garage would be too small to fit a car in or build a thinner structure but again all on our side. Any opinions would be much welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, if the neighbours don't want you to build onto their wall then I don't really see that you have any option other than to accept their decision. Trying to force them to agree will result in a lot of illfeeling and you will have to declare any issues with them should you ever want to sell your house.
Its the neighbours wall and they are entitled to refuse to let you build onto it. Personally, I wouldn't agree to anyone doing it against my property and I don't think they are being unreasonable.ELITE 5:2

Have they given any indication of what, if anything in particular, is concerning them? If so, can it be worked with to help with their concerns?"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

Can you persuade them by accepting full responsibility maintenance/repair of the wall? I can only assume that would be their major concern??0

But they might still worry about what might happen if you move and they get new neighbours. I suspect that they just don't want anything built up against their wall 'just in case' something happens in the future. Its unlikely you will budge them -if they have stuck their heels in no amount of promises/suggestions will move them.
Forgot to say, there is a thread on here somewhere about a neighbour who attached a gate to the OPs house wall AFTER permission was refused. It seems there are serious problems with what is going on in the next door property - possibly your neighbour worries about something similar.ELITE 5:2

Thanks for your response guys. Thought that would be the case. The issue that they wont grant permission is all to do with not upsetting other neighbours who dont want the garage built. All very political but i wont bore you with the details!0
