Removal of personal Info collected by CC Company

in Credit cards
I recently applied for a Northern Bank CC offering 0% for 5 months and no transfer fees which is advertised on this site.
Northern Bank make you apply in person and if not a customer already you need to provide 2 x Utility bills, passport, 3 months bank statements and 3 months pay slips. I thought this was a little over the top but provided this info to NB representative during my application.
The whole thing was more of a sales spiel to get you to move mortgage and bank account to the northern Bank. Neither of these i was interested as I was applying for the CC and made this clear to the salesperson.
After the application I was told that I probably wouldn't be approved as I have no prior relationship with the bank. Talk about wasting my time, this was after spending 70 minutes jumping through hoops providing very detailed financial info!!!
Anyway several days later I got a phone call saying that my application was rejected as its not company policy to issue credit cards where no existing relationship with the bank is in place.
What I want to do now is have all my personal information removed from the bank's records as they have no need for a copy of passport, salary info, personal banking statements, utility bills etc to be on file.
The bank are being awkward about this.
Can they legally keep this info even though I have asked for it to be removed? I have no relationship with the bank aside form this application.
Thanks
Alan

If this is a bank policy and you were not made aware of it before you started the application, then you have every right to complain to the bank and bill them for wasting your time.BlackCoral wrote: »What I want to do now is have all my personal information removed from the bank's records as they have no need for a copy of passport, salary info, personal banking statements, utility bills etc to be on file.

Through a Subject Access Request, the bank is obliged to inform you about all details that they hold about you. It could be the bank's policy that they destroy information of unsuccessful applications. Overall, I would not worry - banks need to have data protections systems in place so I would just ignore this.0 -
There might be a regulatory requirement for NB to hold on to the information for money laundering/ fraud reasons.0
