Before xmas my boss offered me a payrise of 2,000 per year and they wanted to know cos i am a single mother whether id be worse off. I said i wouldnt. Anyway they were just preparing my pay slip when i seen it on the desk.....pay only gone up by £16 a month 2%.
I immediately emailed and asked had i got my details wrong was it supposed to be £2,000 a year and not 2%.

They come back with oh yes you are right , we got confused about tax credits. This has been sorted:mad::mad::mad::mad: now i just feel uncomfortable as i am taking a payrise that they obviously are not comfortable giving.

  • Give them a chance to sort it out and talk to your boss to confirm (in writing preferably) that you are getting a £2k per year pay rise.

  • yes hes said that it was supposed to be £2,000 annum but i just feel she was tryin git on to see if id bother. Which makes me feel uncomfortable
  • I think you are being a litte paranoid here- your boss must have a reasonably high opinion of you so why try to pull a trick that a) you would bound to notice and b) would only result in bad feeling?

I presume that your boss doesn't actually process the payroll him/herself so surely it is much more likely that this is a genuine mistake or communication error between your boss and the payroll clerk.

To be honest, most payrises are usually around 2%. It could be the standard figure wherever you work. If there was a miscommunication or an assumption by HR, it could have been a simple error.

I wouldnt feel awkward, your boss said they were going to give you 2k payrise, someone made a mistake and once you pointed it out they are putting it right, dont give it another thought...they wont

Sounds like a simple mistake to me, the person actually doing the payroll giving you 2% instead of £2k.

Is there any logical reason why she would offer you £2k and only give you 2%? if she only wanted to give you 2% that's all she would have offered, unless you think she is a strangely twisted individual who wanted to make you uncomfortable

I think you're reading to much into it.

  • the person doing the payroll is the managers wife...its a company business....and as she sees the figures all day i suspect they think they cant really afford it
  • I looked at the title and thought you were a banker, glad you got it sorted though. Boss offered me a payrise of 2,000k but gave me 2% instead

Hi OP, just a bit of confusion there! £2,000k = £2 million. Do you mean £2k or £2,000?
  • If it's £2,000k where do you work? Any jobs going? lol
