Hi, I just got a new laptop and used my already existent 'Broadband installation CD' on it.
Everything went fine for a while I entered the Username and PW, and folloed all the steps (Tried it all twice so far!) but when I reach the final step, which is plugging my modem to the laptop, the modem produces one red light only...adn the screen says 'wait up to 30 seconds' while the connection is sorted, but it leaves me waiting forever- untill I have to just take it all apart!
I don't understand whats the problem, I have the same broadband connection and modem for the family PC and everything works fine for that... Help HIGHLY appreciated...

Can you just clarify what you have. Tiscali via a normal phone line?.
I assume that you have an ADSL modem rather than a router, but you can only have one ADSL device on a line, and it sounds like you have two.
BTW I think that Tiscali are now TalkTalk, so has anything changed there?0 -
Yeah i have Tiscali via a normal phone line- No router, just an ADSL modem.
Nothing has changed with my connection, since tiscali changed to talk talk, could that be the problem though?
When I tried installing it on my laptop, I unplugged the modem from the computer ..Im not trying to get internet on both devices at the same time, just trying to get internet on my laptop...0 -

I don't think the TalkTalk change should make a major differece - I was just wondering if any logon details had changed - but if your other PC works, it won't be that.
Have a look at this thread on the Tiscali support site.
Seems some modems 'might' work on Windows 7, but they are not supporting it - pushing you towards a router.
Personally I would go for a wireless router anyway - you can hardwire your family PC, and your new laptop will most likely have wireless, so you can use both at the same time, and move your laptop around0
