Employer asking for my phone number after an interview

At the end of the interview with the client company, the interviewer asked for my phone number, and I gave it to him. I didn't mind giving it to him. However, I was wondering why he wanted my phone number.

By the way, it's a temping job through an agency. That means the agency pays my wages.

Well - I guess it could be because he is thinking of making a private work arrangement with you.

That is - phoning you direct - rather than taking you on through the agency.

It's in case he wants to call you.

I would have thought most people put their details on their CV? Or does the agency not allow them to see that?

It could be in case he has forgets something in the interview, and wants to ask something else, or if he is having a problem deciding between 2 candidates.

Or more likely its to let you know if you have had the job.

or very unlikely/unprofessional he fancies you and wants it for future reference

Agencies usually sanitise cvs to remove contact info. As far as I have seen.

They could either have forgotten you are coming via an agency, or they intend to offer the job directly, cutting out the agent. In the second case, if they are willing to screw the agency, what are the willing to do to you?.....

By the way, the agency called me and I'm accepted for the job.

However, I have been put on a waiting list to work for the client company. That means that start date is unknown. Whenever someone leaves, I'm next for the job. I find it quite strange though, as whenever there is a vacancy, there should be a definate start date.

I think agencies delete contact details before sending CVs over to the client company.

I don't think the interviewer forgot about me coming via an agency. At the end of the interview, he said something 'we will let the agency know if you are accepted or not'.

Why would they want to screw the agency?

Hence they will want contact details, to get you in place quickly if they need you.

The recruitment consultant said that he will call me if the client company has a start date for me.

Not sure why the interviewer want my phone number.

I don't think its anything sinister, it might be through past experience that the agency isn't too good at passing on messages, when they tell you to start it might be that he just wants to confirm they have told you everything. It might be that the door for the employees is somewhere else and the and the agency dosn't always say, or that you need to bring a,b, and c and the agency always forgets to say. Or may be its useful for his records in case you don't turn up on your first day. I can think of 101 of these scenario's, I wouldn't worry.
